FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Lisbon, 8th April 2024

On the occasion of the World Day for Physical Activity 2024 (6 April), CrosSport organised the Sport for Inclusion Activist (SIA) – Training of Facilitators within the premises of Jamor National Sports Centre in Oeiras (Lisbon).

The full-day event consisted of three modules: 1) SIA as “Agent of Change”, 2) Personal and Social Development through Sport, and 3) Dynamics for Inclusion.

Some 30 participants representing 10 countries (Afghanistan, Greece, Kurdistan/Turkey, India, Italy, Nepal, Portugal, Spain, Syria, Sudan) joined the practical training and engaged in its dynamics aimed at building skills to foster cooperative behaviour, trust, and leadership.

The event represented an opportunity for the participants – young refugees and facilitators of sport-for-inclusion programs – to work together through collaborative dynamics: specifically, the scope of these exercises was to impart skills to facilitators in order for them to act as “Agent of Change” and be capable of building the capacities of refugee community members to promote community engagement and social inclusion through sport and physical activities.

The action was implemented in partnership with the University of Porto’s ODEC, also thanks to the support of CDP and IPDJ.

The CrosSport project builds on the challenges that the current migration flow poses and is implemented by a consortium of committed partners– International Centre for Sport Security – ICSS EUROPE (Portugal), Fundación Sevilla Fútbol Club (Spain), Fondazione Lazio 1900 (Italy), International Olympic Truce Centre – IOTC (Greece) – that are driving a collective effort to promote inclusive mechanisms through sport.
