This Action aims to explain and obtain an orientation and facilitating access to public access.
The first problem refugees face when entering a new country is the language. It is therefore important to have quick and light educational session where they can learn initial important Italian words and sentences, so they can feel more integrated in their new environment. A good way to learn and practice the language is through sport where the same concepts are repeated.
Through this project we organised language training sessions. These were divided into two phases which were conducted simultaneously. The theory in the morning and the practical through sport in the afternoon. The use of sport also helped consolidate relationships between refugees and Italians
Being able to speak the language facilitates the integration of refugees into the community as they are able to be independent when ordering a coffee to having a conversation. Knowing the language also helps them understand the rules of the country and offers working opportunities to the refugees which is their ultimate goal.
People integrate more willingly when they understand they feel independent and understanding the language and ways of a new community is a good start. The recommendation is that although leaning the language is necessary, integration has many other aspects too such as cultural exchanges and dialog, therefore a multicultural approach is needed.
