This action aims to enhance and reinforce the institutional knowledge about refugees and their integration.

Through this initiative we aimed to sensitise the Institutions concerning the issues about refugees. Refugees can be an added value, and a valid resource. We proposed a new plan concerning refugees that were forced to leave their countries. This path is available through Sports. We treat sports as a vehicle of happiness and a new challenge. This Best Practice therefore has the goal to sensitise the Institutions.

We achieved this by proposing: meetings, workshops, conferences to unite this world and creating one voice. We also organised a sports tournament. We involved Politicians, Speakers, and citizens, to sensitise the theme concerning Refugees. Through the workshops, conferences and meetings we focused on the refugee’s situation and the scope of Sport as vehicle of values, and emphasized their integration into the working world as final objective.

We sensitized both refugees and Italian citizens on the importance of integration starting with sport and ultimately, through the workshops and new skills that can help them integrate into the working world leading to a long-term impact. This project promoted a mechanism that can help refugees rebuild their spirit, and lust for life through sport and work opportunities and ultimately help them integrate into society. The impact on the wider community is that the refugees can contribute rather than been seen as a “burden”.

The lesson learnt is that given the chance, refugees can become an added value to the communities they are living in. The recommendation is to reinforce the relationships between the public institutions, sports associations and refugee centers in order to effectively create solutions.
